TSR.2 Memories Project

Collecting recollections of an icon

What's this project all about – can YOU help??

As you will see from other pages on this site, my first job was as a BAC Warton apprentice, starting in September1965, six months too late to see TSR.2 fly. So this TSR.2 Memories Project is a personal hobby project, admittedley based on a goodly bout of nostalgia, all about recording the experiences of those who actually worked on the project, at whatever level and in whatever company or organisation. Not just BAC Warton and Weybridge and not just senior managers - I am just as interested in hearing from shop floor people and those from non-engineering jobs, and from those in small suppliers large and small - Bristol Siddeley, Ferranti, EMI, and all their suppliers, too. If you have a story to tell, of your actual experiences on the project, let me know!

Anything, from a small one-event anecdote ta full several-thousand word autobiography of “your part in the challenge”.

Or maybe, or indeed more likely, you might have a friend, relative, neighbour of former colleague who worked on the TSR.2. Do talk to them about this project and ask them to contact me.

Anything is welcome, the stipulation is that it must be true, as far as the teller is concerned, and not relayed gossip or supposition. Yes, after 40 years memories do wander, but this is not the place for conjecture or “what ifs” - but also allowed are tales of the characters involved and their achievements, as long as they are not debasing, embarrassing or libellous.

Contributions are preferred by e-mail (as attachments), but I will accept anything that suits, just let me know what you can best do.

All contributions will be acknowledged, and contributors kept advised of progress. There is no cost either way, and the copyright remains with the writer.

At first, I was unsure if this work would develop, or if it might one day been seen in paper-printed format, but in spring 2007 this hobby was given a huge boost with the publication of my aims in the BAE Systems Pensioners' magazine. As a result the emphasis moved much more towards piublishing the memories received on this web site, which is far easier to access from all around the world, and far cheaper than cutting down trees..

Thanks for reading this far, I hope to hear from you.
